i may be wrong but i thank  Wrought Iron has a low carbon content. While spring steel has a much higher carbon content.

#1 is true..#2 is not, as far as I know no automobile parts were ever made of wrought iron. WI was more common before 1900, most of the wrought I have found was in old wagons and horse-drawn...

If you're on the west coast, once you figure out what wrought looks like, you can usually pick up wagon wheels/parts for relatively cheap. Most are wrought. I've heard (but not seen) of steel ones.
